Tom’s Kitchen, Mailbox, Birmingham
Situated in the centre of the Mailbox shopping complex, Tom’s Kitchen provides quality dishes in a relaxed, informal Bistro setting, complete with leather chesterfields and soft elegant lighting.
There is also a well stocked open plan bar that welcomes both diners and those just wanting a drink.
We chose the two course express lunch and pre-theatre menu at £18.00 per person. This offer is available Monday to Friday 12 – 2:30 p.m. and 5 – 6:30 p.m.
The website advises theatre goers to choose the two course option and arrive at least 45 minutes before you have to leave for the theatre. The restaurant was not exceptionally busy and our server was friendly and efficient. However, I would advise to allow at least an hour, we were there for an hour and a half in total.
We both chose a different main course. The minute steak which was seasoned well and of a good quality was accompanied with fries. The spring pea risotto seasoned with garlic puree and cheese was both filling and very tasty.
We both also chose different desserts ; a warm homemade rhubarb pie with soft pastry and homemade ice cream, and a light chocolate moose accompanied with lime and homemade honeycomb. Both were delicious.
We also had a carafe of rioja for £12.00 which gave us the small glass of wine we wanted with our meal.
Tom’s kitchen offers the perfect pre-theatre venue for anyone visiting the Alex theatre as it’s within easy walking distance . We would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a pre-theatre menu that uses seasonal quality ingredients in a stylish contemporary setting.
