The “Grand” opened in 1894 and is a grade two listed building, with 1,200 seats over three levels.
The Grand is within easy walking distance from Wolverhampton bus and railway station, the nearest car park is in Pipers row.
The front of house area of the theatre was redesigned and refurbished in 2016 and is bright modern and welcoming.
There is a large bar in the front of house area, which was well staffed ensuring a quick service. In the stalls area there is also a smaller encore bar complete with comfortable seating. Both bars serve a good selection of alcoholic and soft drinks.
Toilets are clean and as always there is a large queue at the ladies which moved quickly compared to other theatres.
Arthurs of the Grand is the open plan art deco style dress circle bar. In this area there are 5 private booths available to hire. Costing between £50-£60 hospitality packages are available in these areas for up to 6 people. These need to be pre-booked and can be booked up to 24 hours before a performance.
For the performance of Hairspray, we sat in seats F10 and F11 in the dress circle, which gave us a good view of the stage.
We had a good evening at the Grand and have no hesitation in recommending this lovely theatre.
