Hurst street, Birmingham, B5 4TD

Situated a few minutes walk from the Birmingham Hippodrome this modern restaurant serves classic homemade Italian dishes.

The restaurant does get busy pre-theatre, however, we did manage to get a table easily enough without booking. The restaurant does have a deposit policy when pre-booking a table for Friday and Saturday evenings and we would advise visitors to check their website for full details.

Milano offers a pre-theatre menu on Sunday – Friday between 12:00-14:00 where a starter and a main is £12.95 and between 17:00 -19:00 a starter and a main is £16.95.

The pre-theatre menu on a Saturday is offered between 12:00 -14:00 and between 17:00 – 19:00. The cost for both time slots on a Saturday is £17.95 for a starter and a main course.

There is a drinks menu offering a selection of wines, spirits and beers. We chose a bottle of the House Rose at £19.95 per bottle, it was dry and served chilled, the perfect accompaniment to our meal.

We both chose Panne Aglio & Formaggio for our starter (Garlic bread topped with Cheese), which was accompanied by a fresh side salad.

We both also chose the same main course which was homemade lasagne sheets in a Bolognese, béchamel and tomato sauce and coated in mozzarella sauce. The homemade pasta was very light, and the sauce was delicious. The food was well presented and served hot to the table.

Staff were pleasant and efficient, appearing experienced in serving pre-theatre diners.

We would recommend Milano to anyone looking for Italian food in and around the Arcadian area of Birmingham.

Milano is within easy walking distance of the New Alexandra and Old Rep theatres as well as being a few minutes’ walk from the Birmingham Hippodrome.
