Burlington Arcade, New street, Birmingham B2 4JH

This Nicholson pub is located on one of the oldest streets of Birmingham, a very short walk from New Street station. The unusual medieval décor and basement setting, complete with cosy nooks and corners throughout, gives the Bacchus bar a different feel from pubs in the area.

There is a wide range of wines, spirits and cask conditioned beers available.

We booked a table in the restaurant area of the bar, which was intimate and offered a waitress service. Food is also served in the bar area, where customers place their orders for food at the bar.

The Bacchus Bar does not have a pre-theatre menu, however there is a good selection of traditional pub food on offer.

The house speciality is pie, with a variety on offer. The chicken, Ham Hock and cheese pie (£11.25)  was deep filled and came accompanied with mashed potatoes, and seasonal vegetables. The wholetail Whitby scampi (£9.95), garden peas and chips were served with a tartare sauce.

Both meals were served hot to the table, nicely presented and the portions were generous.

The service was efficient, and our server Izzy was very friendly and helpful.

The Bacchus Bar’s location makes this the perfect choice for anyone travelling by train to theatres and venues out of central Birmingham.
